There's something about a lighted Christmas tree in a dark room: the pale silver-green needles accented by the light of a thousand little candles...it's cheerful and chilling all at the same time. Especially with good Christmas music in the background. (That’s probably where the chills come from.) I went to the Christmas symphony last night. It was incredible. (The Christmas trees were the ones I helped decorate, incidentally. *pat pat* :) Something really cool I noticed: the organist incorporated a motif from "Happy Birthday" into his introduction for "Angels We Have Heard On High." At first I was like,
what in the world, but then it hit me:
this is what it's all about! It's Jesus birthday hello! Why is it that we so often forget the basics? We get distracted by all the worthless foofaraw and forget about what's really important. Like the Christ in Christmas. Or the thanks in Thanksgiving. Or the
giving in Thanksgiving for that matter. The focus during this season always seems to be "what do you want?" And that's great as far as it goes...giving to others is good. But what about Jesus? It's HIS birthday! And I think we all know what presents he would like to have.
